The University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) unanimously voted at its Wednesday, October 6 Emergency General Assembly to return to class this Friday, October 8, 2021, ending two weeks of \u201cdisengagement\u201d at the University of Liberia (UL). The ULFA Emergency General Assembly chaired by its President Dr. Edna Johnny on the UL Capitol Hill campus followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Liberia and the University of Liberia Administration last Friday, October 1, 2021 which addressed ULFA\u2019s demand for solutions to a wide range of issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to their unanimous vote during Wednesday\u2019s emergency general assembly, ULFA President Dr. Johnny appealed to her colleagues to return to class this Friday because she and her team of leaders had acted on behalf of ULFA to sign the MoU after going through extensive negotiations with UL Administration and the Government of Liberia and saw firm commitments that everything in the MoU would be implemented based on agreed timelines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Johnny added that having raised the profile of issues at the university, the Visitor of the University and President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, is involved and ULFA is \u201cholding him accountable [for] the success of this MoU through the Ministry of Finance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, because they have affixed their signatures on it on his behalf and he was there to intervene. Because you know he\u2019s the Visitor, he said through the Minister of Finance that everything that is done here is based on my directive \u2026 so we take his word for it, but we are holding him accountable for everything that is in this MoU,\u201d Dr. Johnny noted.<\/span><\/p>\n
