{"id":16195,"date":"2022-11-02T03:05:15","date_gmt":"2022-11-02T03:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ul.edu.lr\/?p=16195"},"modified":"2022-11-02T03:05:15","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T03:05:15","slug":"law-school-iconic-palava-hut-demolished-as-work-begins-on-multipurpose-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ul.edu.lr\/new\/law-school-iconic-palava-hut-demolished-as-work-begins-on-multipurpose-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Law School Iconic Palava Hut Demolished As Work Begins on Multipurpose Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The historic palava hut at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia (UL), has been demolished as work begins for the construction of a modernized multipurpose palava hut project on the university\u2019s Capitol Hill campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contractors carried out the demolition exercise on Friday, October 28, 2022, over one month after the Law Students Association (LAWSA) at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law officially launched the project to remodel the Law School palava hut.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dean of the Law School, Prof. Dr. Jallah Barbu, and other officials of the University were present during the demolition exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project, which is estimated at a little over US$80,000, is anticipated to be completed within three months and dedicated. Workers have already barricaded the construction site with a temporary zinc fence.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The groundbreaking ceremony held at the Law School on UL Capitol Hill Campus on Friday, September 16, 2022, was occasioned by a boost in support for the project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liberia\u2019s Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel Howard &#8211; Taylor made an initial contribution of US$2,000, followed by International Aluminum Factory Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ezzat Eid\u2019s contribution of US$20,000 which was divided into two, US$10,000 cash and US$10,000 worth of materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When completed, the multipurpose building is expected to have a moot court (a co-curricular activity) for law students to practice as if they were actually in a courtroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is expected to provide a space that can host 100 persons, be used for the orientation of new law students, and also have a canteen and bathrooms, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The historic palava hut at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia (UL), has been demolished as work begins for the construction of a modernized multipurpose palava hut project on the university\u2019s Capitol Hill campus.
