Capitol Hill Campus, University of Liberia, May 21, 2025 | The University of Liberia Athletic Team has won the Grand Final of the National Universities Athletics Championship.
Held from May 16 to 17, 2025, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, the National Universities Athletics Competition brought together participants from the University of Liberia (UL), Cuttington University, Stella Maris Polytechnic University, A.M.E. Zion University, A.M.E. University, and United Methodist University.
Other universities were Blue Crest University, Starz University, Salvation Army Polytechnic University, and AUWA.
The competition for male and female players included the long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin, medley relay, and mixed relay.
In celebration of the victory, the UL Athletic Team on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, presented a giant-sized trophy to the Administration of the University of Liberia during a cabinet meeting chaired by UL President Prof. Dr. Layli Maparyan.
The brief ceremony for the presentation of the trophy took place during the university’s cabinet meeting, which was held at the UL College of Health Sciences in Congo Town.
The team informed Dr. Maparyan and the cabinet that it won 45 medals, including the giant-sized trophy. The UL Athletic Team expressed deep appreciation to the university for its support.
Receiving the trophy, Dr. Maparyan congratulated the athletic team on behalf of the University Administration and bragged that the University has a good team.
Filled with joy over the UL Athletic Team’s outstanding performance in the competition, Dr. Maparyan committed to the university’s support to keep the team winning more.
“So we want to make sure you get the support you need to keep doing this. You know, my own daughter is on the track team back where I come from, and so I have watched the hard work that goes into it,” said Dr. Maparyan.
“I don’t know how you do it in this heat, how you even practice, but you’ve done well. And also, one of my relatives going way back in time is Jesse Owens, one of the oldest few track stars that you’ve ever had. So I have a great appreciation for track and for all of you.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
