{"id":25503,"date":"2026-03-11T10:01:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T10:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ul.edu.lr\/new\/?p=25503"},"modified":"2026-03-15T03:11:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T03:11:35","slug":"university-of-liberia-celebrates-75th-anniversary-with-diplomatic-dialogue-on-the-greystone-exchange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ul.edu.lr\/new\/university-of-liberia-celebrates-75th-anniversary-with-diplomatic-dialogue-on-the-greystone-exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Liberia Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Diplomatic Dialogue on the &#8220;Greystone Exchange&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Capitol Hill, March 11, 2026 | As part of its landmark 75<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary commemorations, the University of Liberia (UL) will host a high-level discussion Thursday with a senior U.S. diplomat and Liberia\u2019s ambassador to the United States exploring a historic agreement between the University and the United States that helped secure the institution\u2019s financial future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diplomatic talk titled \u201cTwo Diplomats in Conversation on a Historic Moment &amp; Its Legacy: The Greystone Exchange\u201d will feature Hon. Joe Zadrozny, Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Liberia, and former acting UL President Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, who is currently Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Layli Maparyan, President of the University of Liberia. And it will take place on Thursday, March 12, from 12 pm to 1:15 pm at the UL Capitol Hill\u2019s Auditorium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion will examine the historic agreement through which property owned by Liberia College\u2014now the University of Liberia\u2014was leased to the United States government for construction of its embassy headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By leasing this property to the United States government for the establishment of its new embassy headquarters, the University secured a financial foundation for the UL Endowment through international cooperation that continues to benefit the institution, Dr. Maparyan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Greystone Exchange is an important moment in UL\u2019s history because it seeded UL\u2019s endowment,\u201d Dr. Maparyan said. \u201cEvery university needs an endowment, and, in our 75th anniversary year, this story about a major fundraising success is both interesting and timely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the &#8220;Greystone Exchange&#8221; is one of the most pivotal chapters in the University\u2019s history, it\u2019s unknown to younger generations. Dr. Maparyan said the discussion is an opportunity to learn the history and understand how the UL\u2019s past assets were leveraged to secure its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople should come out for this discussion because it is a chance to learn about UL\u2019s endowment and how UL has benefitted from its properties to advance its educational mission,\u201d Dr. Maparyan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is open to students, faculty, alumni, and the public.
