Monrovia, Liberia (October 6, 2026) –

A representative of the University of Liberia Chorus arrived in Kenya Monday night to participate in an international choral festival, where the experience could bring new performance techniques, repertoire and cultural perspectives back to the UL’s music program.

Mr. Stephen G. Garduah is representing UL Chorus at the Africa Sings International Festival of Choral and Traditional Music, a Pan-African gathering of musicians and educators featuring workshops, performances and cultural exchanges.

“The African Sings Festival is excellent in training traditional, country music style,” Mr. Garduah said. “The UL Chorus will generally benefit from that, having been aligned with our culture and tradition.”

The annual festival offers professional development through exposure to different choral traditions and opportunities to build connections that could benefit the chorus and its students. This year’s Africa Sings Festival’s theme is “United Voices Uniting People.” The festival runs from Oct. 7 to 11 in Nairobi.

Garduah, who also works in UL’s Procurement Department, said the university’s premier moral entertaining sector, is currently going through restructuring, and skills gained from formal music reading will be transferred to chorus members through training.

According to him, the UL Chorus and the African Sings Festival hold similar music styles, pledging to elevate the Chorus singing up to that premium level.

Garduah believes that his participation in the international conference will influence formal, traditional, dance and color, choreography, voice or vocal training, and full choral and indigenous music performances at the university and elsewhere.

“I will do full networking to include the UL and link it with the African Sings Festival Body,” Garduah pledged further.

According to him, Liberia holds a unique culture and tradition, noting that the country’s languages are unique to choral music in Africa and the world.

He committed to advance that to the African Sings Festival, share the composition of Note music, and play the Piano and other required instruments.

He added that he will seek to make partnerships that will foster growth and development for the UL. He praised veteran music icon Madam Agnes Nebo Vanballmoose, under whom he said the chorus has been at an international level.

“So will meet the standard again to represent the UL and Liberia abroad,” he vowed.

Garduah said he is honored by the opportunity the university has afforded him to represent the chorus at the international conference.

He expressed gratitude to University of Liberia President Dr. Layli Maparyan, and musical icons and other officials of the university for their support.
