Degrees Are Calls to Duty, National Service: Commencement Speaker Reminds Graduates

Day three of the University of Liberia 103rd Commencement Convocation continued on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, with a call to the  380 graduates from the A. Romeo Horton College of Business and Public Administration to consider their degrees as a call to duty and national service.

The assertion was made by the  Deputy Minister for Budget, Ministry of Finance, Hon. Tanneh G. Brunson, who delivered the Keynote address on the Fendall Campus of the University.

Madam Brunson said the part of the responsibilities of transforming Liberia now rested on the graduates who must use their knowledge to make it happen. 

According to Min. Brunson, there are sufficient reasons why the graduates must celebrate their achievements. reminded them  of the reality that their country and its people look  to them to challenge the status quo, innovate and give their utmost best in the nation building process.

“Let us see this stage as a call to duty to our country and it’s people and even beyond”, Min. Brunson urged.

She wants the graduates to meaningfully exert themselves in whatever way that will  improve themselves and their country.

*Let us not bury our knowledge and talents with fear and low esteem but make maximum use of what we have learned to protect the image of our beloved Alma Mater and Liberia “.

Earlier, the Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration, Associate Professor Lester Z. Tenny, in a welcome statement, also thanked the Faculty for preparing the graduates for future challenges.

Dean Tenny disclosed that phase one of his mandate to assist Pres. Weah fulfils his dream of producing quality men who will continue to serve their country for growth and development.

According to Dean Tenny the College will focus on phase two of that mandate to prioritise the upgrading of current faculty and recruitment of young men and women to further and earn advanced degrees and return to continue the process of teaching and learning at the College.

Abdurahman Jalloh from the Department of Economics  emerged as the Valedictorian, with high distinction of Magna Cum Laude.

Meanwhile, the 103rd Commencement Convocation will climax on Friday, June 2, 2023, with the Convocation of prospective graduates from the Graduate and Professional Schools on the Fendall Campus of the University of Liberia.
