Dr. Tanya Ansahta Garnett has two decades of experience as a professor, researcher, facilitator, technical adviser, and gender expert. As an educator both in the United States and in Liberia, she has taught international development and gender studies and facilitates knowledge sharing events with youth and mid-career professionals. She considers herself a professor of practice and enjoys bridging the gap between theory and practice, academia and activism. She is passionate about strengthening the effectiveness of international development through meaningful collaboration, critical thinking, organizational learning, change management, pertinent evidence-based analysis, participatory program design, and systematic monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Dr. Garnett is an avid researcher, and her research interests focus on gender and development, peacebuilding, women’s political representation, feminist foreign policy, and African diaspora studies.

Dr. Garnett obtained her doctorate degree in International Development from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2012. Her Dissertation was entitled, Understanding Gender in the Liberian Post-Conflict Reconstruction Process. She joined the University of Liberia faculty in 2012 as an Adjunct Professor at the Ibrahim B. Babangida (IBB) School of International Studies. She has since served in various roles, including the former Director of the IBB School of International Studies and Associate Dean at the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the College for Gender Studies and Interdisciplinary Research where she leads the development of new curricula in gender studies and international development, supports partnership development, and teaches various graduate and undergraduate courses, including Development Theory, Feminist Theory and Gender Statistics. Dr. Garnett is fluent in French and is also a singer-songwriter.
