Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson Jr, a former vice president and dean of students, was nominated president of the University of Liberia (UL) on 18 October 2019 by H.E. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia and Visitor to the University of Liberia (UL).

He was subsequently unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees of the University of Liberia on November 11, 2019 in consonance with Article IV Section 1 of the Charter of the University of Liberia, which states: “The Visitor of the University of Liberia shall nominate the President of the University of Liberia for approval by the Board.”

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Nelson was a professor and chaired the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in Liberia College.

But it is his service to students he is mostly known for and highly respected. For more than 12 years, Dr. Nelson headed the Department of Student Affairs at the University of Liberia (UL), serving as its Vice President and Dean.
