Distinguished ladies and gentlemen.
I am very delighted to be at this program to celebrate two major events:
- To honor the Camp Xsel inaugural class of 2021, and
- To launch the Revised UL Medical School Curriculum
These events today are significant achievements of UL President Prof. Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson’s vision of “brightening the light in the darkness” when formally took over as the 15th President of the University of Liberia on 28th November 2019.
In his Inaugural Speech, Prof. Nelson challenged us to carry out comprehensive review and revision all curricula across academic programs at UL to ensuring that our curricula are benchmarked against other outstanding Universities within the sub-region and globally to ensure our graduates can compete with their compatriots within the sub-region and beyond. At that time, I was the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Forestry. I had no idea that President Nelson would ask me to join his team as the Vice President for Academic Affairs to assist him to champion his academic revitalization efforts.
- This Revised UL Medical School Curriculum is a huge step in fulfilling our dream of making all the academic programs more student-centered and experiential.
- I wish to thank Prof. MD. Bernice Dahn, Prof. Z’Sherman Adams, present and former Vice Presidents [respectively] for Health Sciences, and their hard-working team for making this dream a reality.
We are especially grateful to the US Government through its Embassy in Liberia for the tremendous financial and technical support that have enabled the University of Liberia to achieve this big dream. Your Excellency, Ambassador McCarthy, on behalf of the entire University of Liberia family, we wish to thank the people and government of the USA for the continuous financial and technical support to various units within our university.
On this note, on behalf of the President of the University of Liberia, Prof. Dr. Nelson, I hereby accept the Approved Revised Curriculum of the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine from the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lawrence Sherman, and the Vice President for Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Bernice Dahn, I wish to thank you and the entire team that developed this innovative and demand-driven revised curriculum. The Office of Academic Affairs under my watch will work closely with the College of Health Sciences to ensure that this innovative curriculum is fully implemented.
I thank you.
