The UL faculties have returned just about a month after Dr. Nelson in September told the Legislature that the university is fully or partially sponsoring 37 faculty members studying abroad.
At the time he noted while defending the university’s budget for Fiscal Year 2020 – 2021, that this is evidence of his administration’s uncompromising commitment to improve the quality of services to students and the country at large in a strive for excellence in partnership with RUFORUM and other partner institutions of higher learning.
After being presented the returning faculty Friday, October 8, 2020, Dr. Nelson applauded them for their recent graduation from various universities abroad.
He noted that October 5 every year is World Teachers Day, and he thought it would be a good thing that the university, which is committed to molding the minds of young people, must do all it can to celebrate their achievement in a special way.
“And though, that is why we are starting… let me put on record that for 2021 we will see how we can tie in the celebration of World Teachers Day in partnership with ULFA to ensure that this university celebrates academic achievement and scholarship,” Dr. Nelson said.
He indicated that he has shared with the chairman of the Commencement Committee a suggestion that during UL’s graduation, there would be a special day where the university will celebrate those in the past academic year 2018, 2019 and 2020 who have written books and journals in continuation of the celebration of scholarship and academic excellence at the University of Liberia.
Introducing the returning faculty members, Mr. Sayon Henry Yaidoo, Director of Contracts, Grants and Partnerships, expressed pleasure to present to Dr. Nelson, the returned faculties after many years of investment in the improvement of quality and quantity of staff and faculty of the University of Liberia.
Mr. Yaidoo indicated that the returned faculty had successfully completed studies abroad, adding that this is the investment that the university has made in people who will now come and help in the institution’s endeavor to develop its land.
The Vice President for Institutional Development and Planning at the University of Liberia, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley said the administration decided to spice up the presentation of the Fendall Land Master Plan to the President with the returnees for a good reason.
She noted that for a number of times people go away and come back, and what they have done is not known, the efforts and sacrifices they have made are not recognized.
As Vice President for Institutional Development and Planning, Prof. Boley said she hears all the calls with people complaining about lack of support. She noted that it was a way of saying a special welcome to all the returning faculty members.
I am so glad to hear that, Liberian’s Education will now be compared to the Western world.
We are very proud of our colleagues and the UL Administration for this very important and Milestone achievement. May God Almighty continue to bless us and save our Flagship University and the Administration of Rev. Dr. Julius Julukon Sarwolo Nelson, Jr.
