Dr. Nelson Meets New UN Resident Coordinator
University of Liberia President, Rev. Dr. Julius J.S. Nelson, Jr., on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, held an acquaintance meeting with the new United Nations Resident Coordinator in Liberia, Mr. Niels Scott, at the Pan African Plaza on 1st Street in Monrovia. The meeting centered around partnership and collaboration between UN agencies in Liberia and academia to accelerate the actualization of The Decade of Action—the UN’s plan of speedily rolling out initiatives in concert with parties and partners to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by the target year of 2030.
President Nelson outlined current and potential areas of collaboration while Mr. Scott expressed enthusiasm in working with academia but underscored the need for concrete impactful actions and an overarching collaboration framework.
Mr. Scott is from the United Kingdom and was appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Liberia by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on January 1, 2021. He previously served as Resident Coordinator in Indonesia and, most recently, the Interim Resident Coordinator in Burundi. Mr. Scott has been in Liberia since January 3, 2021.
