In alignment with our goal to expand institutional capacity and provide rigorous academic training (equipping graduates with the scholarly expertise and practical leadership skills necessary to excel at the highest levels of the education sector), the University of Liberia is seeking distinguished terminal-degree holders for faculty appointments within the Ph.D. programs in Education. We seek experienced teacher-scholars committed to high-quality post-graduate education, research mentoring, and contributing to the University’s academic mission.

Candidate Qualifications

Educational & Academic Standards

  • A Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated excellence in graduate-level instruction and the supervision of Master’s or Doctoral candidates.
  • An active research portfolio consistent with academic rank, including peer-reviewed publications and grant acquisition.
  • A proven track record in curriculum development, mentorship, and service to the broader academic community.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in teaching or supervising Ph.D. dissertations through to successful completion.
  • Experience in successful grant writing and leadership of complex academic projects.
  • Evidence of international or regional engagement and a well-established professional collaborative network.
  • Prior administrative or leadership experience within a higher education framework.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and instruct post-graduate level courses and seminars.
  • Provide primary supervision and mentorship to Ph.D. students and serve as a technical expert on dissertation committees.
  • Maintain an active research program with a consistent output of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Secure external funding and contribute to the strategic development of the doctoral programs.
  • Participate in departmental service, institutional assessment, and outreach initiatives.

Terms of Appointment

  • Appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, based on the candidate’s experience and scholarly record.
  • Salary and benefits packages are competitive and aligned with university policy and candidate qualifications.
  • The specific appointment type (tenure-track or fixed-term) will be detailed in the formal letter of offer.

  1. Cover Letter (Specifying the faculty program of interest.)
  2. Curriculum Vitae: (Including a full bibliography, grant history, and a list of successfully supervised theses/dissertations.)
  3. Teaching Statement: A 1–2-page philosophy of teaching, including evidence of graduate-level effectiveness.
  4. Research Plan: A 1–2-page statement outlining research objectives, Ph.D. supervision strategies, and potential funding avenues.
  5. DEI Statement: A 1-page summary of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
  6. References: Contact information for three professional referees.
  7. Scholarly Publications: A list of recently relevant publications.
