Following a series of negotiations mediated by the Government of Liberia to resolve the discontentment of faculty, the Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, October 1, 2021, with the Faculty and Administration of the University of Liberia at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

According to the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah, the signing of the MoU on Friday, was a significant phase of a process initiated by direct instructions from His Excellency, Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia and Visitor to the University of Liberia, to end weeks of disengagement by faculty.

Minister Tweah described the MoU as a forward-looking instrument that lays out steps towards total resolution of all of the issues raised by the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA).

In her response, ULFA President, Dr. Edna Johnny, thanked the Visitor of the University of Liberia, President George Weah for his prompt intervention, while promising to convene an ULFA General Assembly on Wednesday, October 6, to call on faculty members to re-engage for the resumption of classes this Friday, October 8, 2021.

The President of the University of Liberia, Rev. Prof. Dr. Julius J.S. Nelson, Jr., commended ULFA and GoL for the signing of the MoU and added that the recent impasse reflects diversity at the University of Liberia.
