Monrovia, Liberia (October 27, 2026)- The University
of Liberia has referred student William B. Sando to its Disciplinary
Committee to investigate his claim that he is the acting
president of the University of Liberia Student Interim
Leadership (ULSIL).
The university’s Division of Student Affairs, in an official communication dated October 23 to Disciplinary Committee Chairman Mr. Andrew Dean, said student Sando introduced himself as the “Acting President of ULSIL” during recent live
Facebook broadcasts on the official pages of the accused and Senator Nathaniel McGail.
In the Facebook live, Sando claimed to speak for UL
students and petitioned the University Administration in
that purported capacity, without any valid mandate.
The UL Division of Student Affairs said Sando made
statements to the public that are misleading and inaccurate
regarding the existence and status of student leadership at
the University.
Asst. Prof. Saydah Williamson Taylory, Vice President and
Dean of Student Affairs of the University of Liberia, said
student Sando previously served as Student Representative
(S.R.) to the ULSIL during the 2024-2025 period.
She added that the leadership arrangement operated under
the extended ULSIL Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) of 2024, which expired on December 31, 2025.
“Since that date, no acting or interim student leadership has
existed at ULSIL, and the Student Union Building has
remained closed. Mr. Sando therefore holds no office,
mandate, or authority to represent the student body,” said
Asst. Prof. Williamson Taylor.
She said Mr. Sando was verbally advised and cautioned on
several occasions, including during student leaders’
stakeholder meetings, to cease holding himself out as a
student leader.
However, the accused continues this conduct which, if
established by the investigation, constitutes violations of
the several provisions of the university’s student handbook.
The communication lists Rule 1 (Dishonesty); Rule 6
(Creating Unrest on Campus; Acts of Hooliganism,
Vandalism, and Violence); Rule 10 (Hostile and
Disrespectful Behavior towards University Authorities);
and Rule 13 (Circulation of Scurrilous Leaflets or Other
Publications), as provisions that student Sando has
violated.
The Division of Student Affairs has therefore requested Mr.
Sando to respond to the concerns and be heard, in keeping
with due process.
It further requested the Disciplinary Committee to
investigate the matter fully, including the authenticity and
content of the broadcasts and petitions, and to determine
whether the Student Handbook’s provisions cited have
been violated.
The committee has been mandated to recommend and
impose appropriate sanctions, should the allegations be
substantiated, and report its findings and decision to the
Division of Student Affairs.
“I further request that this matter be treated with the
urgency it deserves, given its potential to mislead the
public and disrupt harmony on campus,” Vice President
Williamson Taylor said.
A warning letter from the Division of Student Affairs has
been addressed to student Sando regarding his actions,
particularly concerning his statements to the public that are
inaccurate and misleading about student leadership at the
university and purported to represent the UL student body.
“You are hereby formally warned to IMMEDIATELY
CEASE AND DESIST from: identifying yourself as
Acting President, or holding yourself out as an officer, of
ULSIL or any student government body,” the
communication said.
Meanwhile, the Division of Student Affairs has
admonished the public, the student community, partner
institutions, and all stakeholders that student Sando is purporting to be, and presenting himself as the acting
president of ULSIL.
“This claim is false, and the public is advised not to take
him seriously,” the office said.
