The University of Liberia through the Center for Testing and Evaluation has released official results for the May 1, 2021, First Entrance and Placement Examinations administered in seven counties across the country.
The centers included Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County; Ganta, Nimba County; Tubmanburg, Bomi County; Voinjama, Lofa County; Buchanan, Grand Bassa County; Sinje, Grand Cape Mount County and Montserrado County.
According to the release from the Center for Testing and Evaluation (CTE) at the University of Liberia, a total of eleven thousand two hundred ninety-nine (11,299) candidates registered for the entrance for undergraduate and for Sinje Vocational College and the College of General Studies.
Of this number, eleven thousand, one hundred sixty-three (11,163 or 98.8% ) candidates wrote the Exam; one candidate (1 or 0.01%) was disqualified while one hundred thirty-five (135 or 1.19%) candidates were absent.
Out of the total 11,163 candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams, four thousand, six hundred seventy-one ( 4,671 or 41.84%) candidates passed regularly, eight hundred sixty-eight (868 or 7.78%) students passed provisionally while five thousand, six hundred twenty-four (5,624 or 50.38% ) candidates were unsuccessful.
This also means that five thousand, five hundred thirty-nine (5,539 or 49.62%) candidates made either a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass.
The 2021 First Entrance and Placement Examination Results for the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje, and the College of General Studies fall into five categories which are Regular Pass, Provisional Pass, Unsuccessful, Absent and Disqualified.
Regular pass candidates are those who scored at least 50% in Mathematics and at least 50% in English. Those in this category may register for up to 18 credit hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia.
Provisional pass candidates are those who scored less than 50% in Mathematics or less than 50% in English but obtained an average score of at least 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. Candidates in this category may register for up to 12 or 13 credit-hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia. The credit hours should include Freshman Mathematics and Freshman English.
Unsuccessful candidates are those who have an average score of less than 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. Candidates in this category must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
Absent Candidates are those who registered for the entrance but did not turn out for the Entrance Examination. Candidates that were absent must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
Disqualified candidates are those who registered for the University of Liberia entrance but were disqualified for Examination malpractices.
The release further indicates that 2,390 females passed the entrance, constituting 43.15 percent of the total number who passed the entrance exam, and 3, 149 males passed, constituting 56.85 percent of the total number of candidates who passed the entrance exams.
Accordingly, the release states that candidates who applied for the Business College recorded the highest number of candidates who passed with 1,966 successful, constituting 35.49 percent of the total number of successful pass.
That number is closely followed by the T.J.R. Faulkner College of Science and Technology which recorded the second highest number of candidates who passed with 1,680, constituting 30.33 percent of the total number of candidates who passed.
Candidates from the College of Engineering recorded the third highest number of candidates who passed with 580 names successful, constituting 10.47 percent of the total number of successful candidates.

Candidates from other colleges include the Liberia College of Social Sciences and Humanities which recorded 525 successful candidates, constituting 9.48 percent of the total number; William R. Tolbert College of Agriculture and Forestry with 475 successful candidates, constituting 8.58 percent of the total number; the College of Education, 249 successful candidates, constituting 4.50 percent of the total numbers and the Institute of Research, recording 64 successful candidates, constituting 1.16 percent of the total number of successful candidates.

Also, the CTE release shows that 518 current 12th Graders made successful pass, accounting for 9.35 percent of the total number of successful candidates. However, high school graduates in the country account for the highest number of successful candidates with 4,908 passing, constituting 88.61 percent, while students from other universities recorded 113 successful candidates, constituting 2.14 percent.

The overall results show that candidates from private schools recorded the highest number of candidates with 2,334 making a successful pass, constituting 42.14 percent and closely followed by candidates from Faith-Based Schools recording 2,040 successful pass, constituting 36.83 percent of the total number of successful candidates.
Others are candidates from public schools recording 991 successful pass, constituting 17.89 percent; Company Schools with 124 successful pass, constituting 2.24 percent of the total number and Community Schools with 50 successful pass, constituting 0.90 percent of the total number of candidates who passed successfully.

Lofa County recorded the highest number of candidates who successfully passed the May 1, 2021, First Entrance and Placement Exams with 1,194 passing, constituting 21.56 percent of the overall candidates who passed.
Bong county recorded the second highest number of candidates with 736 candidates passing, constituting 13.29 percent of the total number of candidates that made a successful pass. Nimba county recorded the third highest number of successful candidates, recording 728 who passed or 13.14 percent of the total number of successful candidates in the exams.

Similarly, the release also shows that five hundred four (504) candidates registered for the Graduate School Aptitude Test.
Of this number, twelve(12 or 2.38%) candidates were absent. Of the total four hundred ninety-two (492) candidates that wrote the Graduate School Aptitude Test, three hundred four (304 or 61.79%) candidates were successful while one hundred eighty-eight (188 or 38.21%) candidates were unsuccessful.

Of the three hundred four successful candidates, one hundred fifteen (115 or 37.83%) candidates are females while one hundred eighty-nine (189 or 62.17%) are males.
